Vosteed Cutlery has recruited knife world superstar Ray Laconico for the incoming Vallhund. This collaboration knife sees Laconico doing what he does best to deliver a handsome, high performance EDC.

Vosteed describes Laconico’s style as “minimalist,” and that’s certainly true. In both his custom and production pieces (including those under his own label, Monterey Bay Knives), Laconico pares his patterns down to the bare essentials – but then works his magic to make those essentials feel fresh again. It takes a keen eye and a sure hand to make the commonplace seem special, but it’s a feat that Laconico pulls seemingly effortlessly.

The ‘hund in hand

A drop dead gorgeous clip point is on display here, measuring 3 inches long but sporting a forward-leaning, aggressive angle and proportions that really make the classic lines pop. Vosteed chose to lean on a reliable super steel here, rendering Laconico’s clip in S35VN; it’s the peanut butter to the blade shape’s chocolate, and together they add up to a natural fit for everyday carry cutting chores. On the deployment method front it’s a twofer, with a front flipper to fascinate the fidget fiends, and a thumb stud to satiate the simpler set.

Surprisingly, the handle design is wild, pointy, and extremely experimental – just kidding. No, Laconico’s clean style carries forward to the ergonomics, with a pair of ever so slightly contoured titanium slabs, gently arched and very, very lightly cut and grooved. There’s a frame lock here for rugged, reliable lockup, and a sculpted titanium pocket clip. The weight here may surprise you: despite its general sturdy look the Vallhund weighs a sprightly 2.6 oz.

This one will be available very soon.
