Up next in the pre-SHOT Show major releases: Zero Tolerance, who is bringing two brand new models to Vegas later this month. The dynamic duo consists of a manual button lock knife and an actual automatic model as well.
0512
The 0512 is the automatic newcomer. Autos are gaining traction across the knife market, and a lot of the releases in this category, in recent years, have been designed to be inconspicuous, small-scale everyday carry pieces – but the 0512 goes in the opposite direction. It’s not an impossible daily carry, but its 3.45-inch drop point is broad and beefy. It’s also made from a workhorse super steel, CPM-CruWear, which is rough and tumble enough for big jobs.
The front handle scale, made from canvas Micarta, houses the button firing button. The back side is made from black anodized titanium, and is also where the pocket clip – stubby, deep carry – is attached by default, although it is reversible to the Micarta show side as well. Zero Tolerance has the weight for the 0512 listed at 4.4 oz.
0044
If you don’t want (or can’t own) an automatic ZT, the 0044 is a smaller, manual companion piece to the 0512. It’s not a direct sibling to that knife, but there is a strong resemblance between the two, especially in terms of blade shape. We’ve got another wide-stance drop point here, although without a coating and in full stainless super steel, S45VN.
The handle here is full titanium front-and-back, with an oblong pivot screw head nestled close up to the blue collared button mechanism, which here is used to disengage the lock, rather than fire out the blade. The 0044 has the same reversible stubby pocket clip and is a full ounce lighter than the 0512.
Both of these knives will be making their trade show debut at SHOT later this month, but they are available to order right now.
