Hot on the heels of the first 2024 Zero Tolerance releases, the Kershaw side of the KAI coin received some new models of its own: a trio of releases including two line expansions, and a brand new tactical knife with a hawkbill blade.
Dawnstar
Let’s start with the all-new knife. Don’t be fooled by its ethereal name: the Dawnstar is pretty aggro-looking piece of hardware. The 3.5-inch blade is an assertive, dramatic hawkbill shape, made from 8Cr13MoV and sporting a blackwash finish. There’s a triangle-shaped cutout at the base of the blade, but that doesn’t seem to be for opening; instead, an assisted flipper tab is the main way to fire out this bad boy.
Like the blade, the ergos are modern, tactical-y, and blacked out. The GFN scales are textured and chamfered, and describe a undulating shape with a flared out butt end. The deep carry pocket clip can be reversed to either side and, in total, the Dawnstar weighs 3.4 oz.
Carbon Fiber Bel Air
The Bel Air model was part of Kershaw’s class of 2024, and possibly the standout as a U.S.-made knife featuring MagnaCut blade steel. It was a rare premium-grade Kershaw model, in other words, and now it’s even more premium with full carbon scales.
The CF on offer here is of the marbled variety, and the front and back scales match as Kershaw’s Dura-Lock Axislike allows for complete design symmetry. The Bel Air, already a light knife, is even lighter in this iteration, at just 2.5 oz.
Blackout Mini Iridium
Returning to a tactical aesthetic here (if not a tactical design), Kershaw also rolled out a new version of their Mini Iridium folder here. There are no changes to the design or materials on this one, just a new color scheme. The monochrome look lends this returning champion read a bit differently even if the use category remains the same.
