There’s another large Civivi folder with an unusual name releasing alongside the Neurohaptic later this month. This one is called the Photonix, and it goes right down the Hard Use, Mid-Size Folder specs/features checklist, ticking all the key boxes.
While it continues to be creative and out there on a regular basis, the multitalented, ever-busy Civivi designer crew has also really honed in on a super clean, high-utility style blade ethos. You can see it fully here on the Photonix a 3.7-inch cutter athwart the spear/drop point border, with a nice wide primary bevel and a topside swedge that runs back towards a jimped thumb ramp just above the finger guard/pivot area.
The Photonix blade also flaunts the popular thumb stud and flipper dual deployment setup, and when it comes to the steel choice it’s made from 14C28N. At this point, this clean and utile recipe probably doesn’t need another write-up: thanks in major part to Civivi, 14C28N is seeing what may be its largest circulation ever in the production knife arena. For the light and medium chores the Photonix’s blade is designed to do, it is a heavy hitter for the price point.
While the ergonomic profile on the Photonix is not the most complicated we’ve seen, there’s a bit more bite to the angles at play on its handle compared to the aforementioned Neurohaptic. Note in particular the pointed ridge in the middle of the channel-side grip area. Speaking of grip, the G-10 models are made from the coarse-textured variation of the laminate, so expect your hand to be especially locked in with this one. In another deviation from the Neurohaptic, the Photonix uses a good ol’ fashioned liner lock rather than a button lock.
The Photonix will hit stores around December 16th.
