Well the year is winding down, but We Knife Co. is keeping up its steady, seemingly unbreakable pace. They’ve got their first collaboration with DBK Bushcraft slated to drop next month, a compact blend of old and new called the Nightblade.
DBK Bushcraft should be a familiar name to a large swathe of our readers. This is a YouTube channel and its attendant knife making apparatus, run by Netherlands-based outdoors enthusiasts and real-life best friends Maarten and Mikkie B. As the channel name implies, DBK Bushcraft stands out from the knife YouTuber crowd with its emphasis on outdoors fixed blades, although they are by no means limited to that format – and in fact, for this We Knife Co. collab, they have chosen not only a folding knife format, but a two-hand, traditional knife-inflected one.
Yes, the Nightblade is opened with a nail nick, although it is a locking knife, equipped with We’s Axislike crossbar lock. Sometimes, these types of locking mechanisms can be flipped open with one hand by pulling back on the crossbar and flicking your wrist; we’ll have to get our mitts on one of these before we can determine if that’s possible here or not. As one may expect from a bushcraft-centric design team, the Nightblade’s 2.98-inch blade is a pared back, sturdy drop point shape.
The pared back blade is echoed by the dead simple handle shape: a simple arc with no finger grooves whatsoever, and chamfered titanium scales. There is a loopover deep carry pocket clip which should keep the Nightblade secure whether you take it deep into the wilds, or merely to the office. There are four different color/finish schemes available, but all of them come with the same blade steel, We’s favored CPM-20CV.
The Nightblade is landing next month – would make a pretty great stocking stuff if you’re feeling generous.
