The Airy Peak wasn’t the only new fixed blade that Civivi brought to Utah over the weekend. Check out the Zatumi, a mid-sized outdoors knife with a clean, weight saving-focused design.

We are so tempted to call this blade a trailing point, because that would gel so nicely with our current pet theory that that blade shape came back in big, bad way this year. Every blade has its uptrends and downtrends, and it’s high time the Persian/trailing point got its due. Putting our zeal to one side, however, we’d say that the Zatumi doesn’t quite meet the requirements – although it certainly comes close.

The black blade option alongside the Kydex sheath

Call it what you want, it’s the specs that matter, and the Zatumi’s blade measures 4.3 inches long, which lands it solidly in the outdoors companion use space in our book, although we suppose it isn’t out of the question that it could be an EDC for the right kind of user. Its edge configuration is adaptable to slicing, piercing, and hard push cutting too. Returning Nitro-V seems like a no-brainer in terms of a steel choice for a knife in this category and price bracket.

Meanwhile we see the outdoors component being played to with a full tang handle that’s been skeletonized to maximize potential weigh savings – Civivi lists the weight of these prototypes at 6.5 oz. There’s enough meat on the handle to keep a full grip intact, aided by the presence of G-10 scales. The carry component on offer here is a Kydex pancake sheath with an included T-Clip – that’s “T” for “Terzuola,” by the way, as it is a gizmo designed by that knife making legend.

No release date on the Zatumi yet, but stay tuned.
